I love the convenience and speed of digital. But it’s not as pretty as film.
Here are some product photos I shot on film, with absolutely no Photoshop. Getting some beautiful effects in-camera does take a lot of effort. In the case of these shots, I used multiple exposures or long shutter speeds with triggered lights, adjusting focus between exposures. You don’t get the control you have with Photoshop, but you gain something special: thinking of film and light as something to partner with – rather than dictate to – opens up a world of possibilities for more organic and random effects.
